It's that time of year again. The rumors over what Apple will be unveiling at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 2 are swirling and some of them are more interesting than others.
Earlier this month, we ran down some of the more common rumors about the event. These include the next version of iOS and Mac OS X, upgrades to the Apple TV and Mac Mini and new product lines including the iWatch and a 12-inch Retina MacBook. As usual, this is just scratching the surface of what could be expected.
One of the more interesting rumors is something that has been talked about for some time, an iWallet. Google has already attempted to take over the mobile payment marketplace, but it has yet to truly take off. One of the agreed upon reasons for this is that Apple has yet to get involved in the industry.
According to AppleInsider, the new iPhone could have an NFC chip, which allows the smartphone to communicate with close-proximity wireless sensors. Citing Morgan Stanley analyst Craig Hettenbach, the organization believes that Apple will go one step further than before and add an NFC chip new models of its iPhone hardware. Hettenbach also said that he believes that this technology will become a "core part of its mobile payments strategy."
This is something that has been speculated for some time, but Apple has stayed away from the technology. While it is highly unlikely that a new iPhone will be unveiled in a few weeks, there could be clues in iOS 8 that point to this being a possibility.
