Apple ‘absolutely floored’ to surpass 50 billion app downloads

Say the Same Thing by Space Inch LLC is a word game in the Apple App Store created by the band OK Go. It is a multiple player experience with the objective of getting players to say the same word. It also won Brandon Ashmore from Mentor, Ohio, a $10,000 App Store gift card because it was the 50 billionth application downloaded.

This blog mentioned the countdown that Apple created earlier this month to promote the achievement and yesterday just before 5 p.m. eastern time, it happened.

In a press release, Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services thanked the "incredible customers and developers" for topping 50 billion unique downloads. Customers are downloading more than 800 apps per second at a rate of over two billion apps per month.

"The App Store completely transformed how people use their mobile devices and created a thriving app ecosystem that has paid out over nine billion dollars to developers," Cue said. "We're absolutely floored to cross this milestone in less than five years."

Cue is correct in his statement that mobile applications have changed the way consumers use mobile devices, but it has done the same thing to many businesses. The functionality of iPads and iPhones, when paired with the right mobile applications, can help many companies improve their efficiency and workflow.

However, installing these systems can be more complicated than just plug and play. By partnering with an IT consulting company that specializes in an iPad deployment, any organization can make sure they have optimized the solution.
