Cybersecurity and the normal person

I gave a presentation on Cybersecurity at my Church. I was quickly reminded of all the things that people don’t know.
Sometimes in the tech world we assume that the normal computer users skill level for computing and the internet is a given.

My presentation covered the basics, using virus protection, malware detection, using strong passwords, encryption, privacy settings for FaceBook, Google, and Amazon, etc.

Based on the questions asked I can see why criminals are so successful in the tech world. Even with all the news coverage about FaceBook, the majority of the attendees had no idea the amount of personal information made publicly available and what simple steps you should take to protect yourself.

I encourage all of my tech colleagues to volunteer their time in helping educate people on cybersecurity and best practices.
