Although the Apple TV was initially designed and marketed as a consumer product, it has since proven its value for businesses as well. Connecting seamlessly with both iOS and OS X devices, Apple's set top box gives enterprise users an easy way to share presentations in conference rooms without messy wires, adaptors or even a projector.
"I can just pop into a conference room and share the data from the palm of my hand," Dan Kerzer, senior vice president of mobile at MicroStrategy, told Macworld. "You don't have to do the normal VGA-cable shuffle […] Why, in order to stream a video from your phone to your TV, would you want to hook up a cable when you can just push a button and stream it?"
As more organizations get savvy to Apple TV's potential for enterprise, they will undoubtedly begin experimenting with new ways to use the tech in their offices. Here are three features new users might not know their Apple TVs had:
- Replace your remote: While the Apple TV remote control's tiny size makes it easy to use, it also makes it easy to lose. If you find yourself unable to find the standard remote control, or if you simply want to eliminate the need for an extra clicker, you can program third-party remotes to control your Apple TV. Simply go to Settings > General > Remotes > Learn Remote, then follow the directions on the screen.
- Faster search: Searching on a set top box can be excruciatingly slow, as you have to scroll through a virtual keyboard letter by letter to type out the keyword phrase. With Apple TV, however, you have an alternative. Download the Remote app on an iOS device to use the keyboard on your iPhone or iPad to type search terms in a fraction of the time.
- Adjust the swipe speed: Depending on your preferences, the touchpad on your Apple TV remote may feel too sluggish or sensitive. To adjust the scroll speed on your remote, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Touch Surface Tracking.
