Last year's iPhones boasted larger displays and faster processing speeds that made people feel much more comfortable reading text documents and performing business-critical tasks on their phones. This year, as has become tradition, those devices are receiving hardware improvements with a set of new "S" models, which sport an even faster processor and a host of new features and functionalities. Before their global release on September 25, let's take a look at some of the hardware improvements that the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will bring to both business and casual users alike.

A9 processor

Powering every new feature the iPhone 6s brings to the table, the A9 processor, while invisible, is one of its most significant improvements. Apple's third-generation chip with 64-bit architecture, the A9 processor is 70 percent faster than the A8 chip that resides in current iPhones. In addition to boosting their run speed, the A9 processor also improves the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus's graphics performance by up to 90 percent, allowing them to reach console-like levels, according to Apple.

M9 motion coprocessor

A motion coprocessor is responsible for gathering information from the phone's accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, barometer and other sensors and turning it into usable data. What does having a more powerful motion coprocessor mean for iPhone users? Now not only can iPhones count steps, but they can keep track of users' walking or running pace as well. The more efficient M9 can also keep the "Hey Siri" function on at all times, allowing you to activate Siri with your voice whenever your iPhone 6s is nearby, whether it is plugged in or not.

Camera

As opposed to the invisible processors, the new iPhones' next hardware improvement is all about seeing and being seen. Apple is shedding the 8-megapixel camera it has used in iPhones for years, replacing it with a 12-megapixel camera that focuses faster, captures more accurate colors and will be able to record 4K video. The iPhones' front-facing camera is getting a boost as well, now with 5 megapixels and a flash system that uses the display screen to provide light.
