Apple released two new iPhone models in September, the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. The iPhone XR is still forthcoming, but we do know what the specs are. Continuations of the iPhone X, these new models bring several new impressive features, especially display size and quality, as well as power.

Here's a look at each of them, what's new, and what experts are saying about them.

iPhone XS

This new model has a 5.8-inch display, larger than the iPhone 8 Plus, which had a 5.5-inch display. It's the same size as the original iPhone X. The new model includes iOS 12.1 beta 1, and an embedded SIM (eSIM) which allows for dual line support. This means both the standard nano-SIM and the eSIM, which is fully digital., can work together to combine phone number lists or assist with adding a local SIM when traveling.

The new iPhone XS also includes a A12 Bionic processor. Apple claimed that the A12 would make the iPhones up to 15 percent faster, and that the phone will use 40 percent less power than the previous phones with the A11 chip. Additionally, the company said the graphics processor is up to 50 percent faster.

Macword reported the A12 system does make the new iPhone the fastest ever made. And the battery life is a little bit better, though maybe not as much as Apple claimed it would be. Techradar also says battery life, while improved, is not a massive improvement. The site says it was most impressed with the smart HDR camera and faster operation in the hand.

Forbes claims the battery life is actually worse than the original iPhone X.

Another update is the IP68 water resistance, meaning the phone can be submerged in up to 3 meters of water, up from 1 that was possible in the last version.

For the 64 GB, the price is currently $999, for 256 GB it's $1,149, and for 512 GB it's $1,349.

iPhone XS Max

The iPhone XS Max has a larger display at 6.5 inches. This phone comes equipped with the same A12 Bionic chip and iOS 12.1 beta 1 as the iPhone XS. It also has the same water resistance capability.

A big difference, aside from display size, is battery life, which Apple says is 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone X, and an hour longer than the iPhone XS. The larger model also gets an hour more of wireless video playback and five more hours of wireless audio playback than the iPhone XS.

This model is 7.7mm thick, making it thinner than other top-of-the-line smartphones, according to the Guardian. This includes the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, which is 8.8mm thick. Techradar loves the camera and the bigger screen for games and movies, but says the phone's size makes it slightly hard to handle.

This larger model starts at $1,099 for 64 GB, $1,249 for 256 GB, and $1,449 for 512 GB.

iPhone XR

This model will be released on October 19, 2018, Apple says. The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch display, and Apple says it has the largest LCD ever on an iPhone. It isn't equipped with the HDR display like the other two new phones. Its Liquid Retina HD display is also different than the others, as well as its lower price, starting at $749. (The other two come with Super Retina HD displays).

The color options are many for the iPhone XR, including yellow, coral and blue, several more options than the other two phones. The water resistance in this model is reduced, allowing for just 1 meter of submersion. There's no 512 GB option for this model, just the 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB.

It's thicker than the iPhone XS Max at 8.3mm, and it doesn't come with 3D touch like the others do.

All three models include the A12 Bionic chip.

While some reviews of the new phones are mixed, and some websites claim that Apple hasn't lived up to each and every promise, we do know that the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR are all improved iPhone models. Power, speed, and display are the winners with these new models.
